The In‑N‑Out Burger Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team has an excellent opportunity for a Senior EHS Specialist based at the Chino, CA* warehouse. This role reports to the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager and supports non‑restaurant facilities, including office, warehouse, industrial, and food production environments. Experience in large‑scale food production operations is required. 

The Senior EHS Specialist serves as a subject‑matter expert responsible for leading the development, oversight, and continuous improvement of safety programs across these facilities. This role requires advanced knowledge of safety principles and regulations, as well as the ability to conduct comprehensive program gap analyses, interpret regulatory requirements, and translate those requirements into practical, effective safety initiatives. 

In this position, the Senior EHS Specialist partners closely with leaders and cross‑functional teams to provide strategic guidance, influence decision‑making, and ensure the effective implementation and long‑term sustainability of safety programs. The role also requires a hands‑on presence in the field, including performing on‑site safety assessments, ergonomic recommendations, and evaluating work‑related incidents to identify risks, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.

General Responsibilities: 
  • Lead the development, implementation, and compliance of safety programs and work procedures associated with federal, state, and local regulations and Company policies 
  • Analyze, summarize, and report all necessary EHS data 
  • Prepare, implement, and review EHS manuals, programs, and SOPs
  • Prepare, schedule, and conduct emergency drills and exercises 
  • Provide status updates and recommendations to management on program and policy development 
  • Maintain a daily presence by conducting inspections, training, and verifying compliance in addition to other tasks 
  • Develop & implement safety communication/reporting processes and safety strategies 
  • Maintain effective communication with all levels of associates, management, and applicable Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies 
  • Coordinate audits and agency inspections 
  • Conduct on-site facility audits to determine compliance requirements 
  • Implement operational compliance measures as required by new regulations 
  • Provide/assist in training to operations as necessary 
  • Lead gap analysis and evaluation of compliance issues related to operations and develop/implement corrective action to resolve potential problems 
  • Provide support in the development and implementation of JHA's (Job Hazard Analyses) for both routine (operation and maintenance) and non-routine tasks 
  • Liaison with regulatory and other external parties 
  • Lead investigation teams for significant incidents & determine root cause and corrective actions 
  • Conduct interactive training and meetings 

Work Schedule + Benefits: 
  • Full-time position, Exempt  
  • Pay Range: $119,800-$160,000 annualized salary 
  • The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your experience and other job-related factors.  
  • Hours 5am - 2pm Monday thru Friday, some flexibility to come in for later shifts, weekend shifts as needed for this position.  
  • Regularly work is performed through a combination of traditional business office, industrial and production environments. 
  • It is anticipated that 20% of the work time will be spent in the field

Qualifications: 
  • 7+ years' experience with safety, risk management, lock out tag out (LOTO), hazard communication, emergency action planning, ergonomics and materials handling, root cause and incident analysis   
  • 3+ years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment 
  • Bachelor's or Technical degree in Safety Engineering, Medical Science, Occupational Safety and Health, or other closely related field a plus. 
  • Experience conducting on site safety and injury assessments. Formal training or certification a plus. 
  • Required Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour (General Industry) and First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification, with the ability to lead and elevate site-level training programs. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards (29 CFR 1910) with demonstrated experience applying them in a high-hazard food production environment 
  • Technical expertise in Health & Safety rules and regulations 
  • Safety system or RMIS experience a strong plus, ideally Origami  
  • Forklift and pallet jack certification a plus 
  • Strong ability to advise and influence leadership in the development, maintenance and application of safety programs 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive business, employee, or incident-related information. 
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects with competing priorities simultaneously while remaining organized, detailed, and flexible 
  • Capable of working independently in the field; ability to work autonomously/independently, yet be an integral part of an overall team environment 

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience developing, delivering, and overseeing complex safety training programs, including, but not limited to: LOTO, machine guarding, hazard communication, chemical safety, powered industrial trucks, and emergency response. 
  • Strong background in incident investigations and root-cause analysis, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams to implement sustainable solutions. 
  • Expertise in OSHA recordkeeping, regulatory reporting, safety program assessments, and maintaining inspection-ready documentation. 
  • Demonstrated success partnering with operations, sanitation, maintenance, engineering, and quality teams to strengthen safety culture and ensure consistent compliance.  
  •  Preferred Certifications: Advanced food industry or high-hazard manufacturing credentials such as Ammonia Operator I/II, PSM-related training, or specialized certifications in refrigeration, chemical handling, or industrial hygiene.
